Ex-FOREIGNER Singer LOU GRAMM Interviewed On 'Flight 750' (Audio)
June 12, 2013On May 31, Chad Doing, host of the "Flight 750" radio show on Sports 750 The Game, conducted an interview with former FOREIGNER singer Lou Gramm. You can now listen to the chat in three parts below.
On what it was like when FOREIGNER first started to hit it big in the music world:
Gramm: "You have no idea what having a hit and hearing yourself on the radio and getting a check for record sales made out to you is like. It's just an interesting and mind-altering experience that you're actually solvent, you're making money, you're doing well in your chosen field."
On why he really wasn't thrilled with the release of the hit song "I Want to Know What Love Is":
Gramm: "Not only were we getting hit radio airplay on 'Urgent' and 'Waiting for a Girl Like You', we were also getting FM album play for 'Jukebox Hero' and some of the other songs… I think to open the new album, we should have established ourselves with a strong rock song again rather than finish FOREIGNER '4' with a ballad and start the new album with a ballad. I knew it would damage our rock credibility and it did."
On how he was able to win his battle with addiction while he was on the road touring.
Gramm: "When you use and abuse, you wake up the next morning thinking that you have it all under control and that that won't happen again. And it happens the very next night. That substance is far more powerful than any of us. It's chemically addictive and it defeats your will power. And I finally knew that after we played Madison Square Garden that I didn't want to live like that anymore and I knew that I couldn't play with the stuff anymore because I knew that not only was it getting the best of me but that if I continued with it, I would be a statistic."
